Finally I can stop pretending to know what ’sub prime’ means by using it for things that are a bit pony, and understand it properly instead. Sort of. This is very good at explaining the whole Northern Rock blah as simply as is possible for financial illiterates like me. Thankfully also, Robert Peston follows the time honoured tradition of BBC political/economic correspondents with oddly compelling/compellingly odd intonation that makes potentially dull subject matters oddly compelling.

Apparently Peston is hated in the City. He’s the guy who brings the bad news every morning on the radio. Fascinating show. Really illuminating. This is the kind of stuff that shouldn’t expire after seven days isn’t it.
Absolutely. Interesting about Peston. I suppose those City boys might describe his intonation a bit differently then.
