Britain’s Got Talent

Oh. My. God. This is quite awesome TV. A show necessarily and quite gloriously dependent on the almost infinite variation that homo sapiens has to offer (and dogs, obviously). And yet, at the same time, a format honed to within an inch of its life. It’s primetime Darwinism: the hyper-adapted offspring of New Faces and X-Factor with a handful of Ant & Dec’s Takeaway spliced in for additional Saturday Night Appeal. Hold on…
I wrote all that before it occurred to me there was no point because Britain’s Got Talent is on ITV. So the video above is a fake (I imagine you clicking and clicking and clicking) which I thought I’d put up just to suggest what it might look like if we could feature ITV shows. So, come on ITV (and Channel 4 and the rest), tone down your dopey DRM and let us embed your stuff!
I was all excited there, thinking ITV had got it together. I agree, Britain’s Got Talent is superb in so many ways. Kids, dogs, old-school variety acts. It’s become the highight of Saturday nights in our house.
