Imagine: Doris Lessing
What to say. This speaks for itself of course, and Lessing fans won’t need any encouragement. What an incredible, lambent creature, who has certainly managed to change my life in the last few months. I particularly liked her theory of myths: every writer has one (hers is Africa), and “[it] does not mean something untrue, but a concentration of truth.”
Alan Yentob probably did his best. Although he did remind me quite a lot of the way my ex used to try to impress my grandmother (to mixed effect).
Brilliant. The Daily Express wrote the programme up this morning. I quote: “It’s like The South Bank Show presented by Lieutenant Columbo.”
Matt Baylis, Daily Express. I get these snippets from Broadcast Magazine’s daily ‘what the critics say‘ page, which is quite handy…
That’s hilarious. And true.
